Worried Your House Isn’t "Pinterest Ready"? Why Real Homes Make the Best Newborn Photos

If I had a euro for every time a new mum said to me, "Our house is a mess," I could probably retire! I want to stop you right there and let you in on a little secret: Nobody’s house looks like Pinterest. especially not two weeks after bringing a human into the world.

When you are in the thick of the newborn phase, surrounded by nappies and laundry mountain, the last thing you want to do is deep clean your house for a photographer. And the good news is you don’t have to

Here is why your home is actually the perfect backdrop for your newborn photoshoot, and why you don’t need to worry about having everything spotless.

I Photograph Light and Love, Not Skirting Boards

When I walk into a client's home in Dublin, I am not looking at the pile of post on the counter. I am looking for light. I usually only need one or two "pockets" of nice natural light to create a whole gallery of images. This might be:

  • The master bedroom

  • A living room window

  • The nursery (even if the baby is not sleeping there yet!)

I frame my shots to crop out the clutter and focus entirely on the connection between you and your baby.

We Can "Declutter" as We Go

Please do not stress-clean before I arrive! If there is a distracting water bottle or a stray sock in the background of a shot I want to take, I will just gently move it out of the way. My style is documentary and candid. While I want the photos to look beautiful, I also want them to look real. A home that looks lived-in adds warmth and texture to the images that a studio background just can't match.

Your Home is Part of Your Story

Think about the photos you love looking at from your own childhood. Is it the perfect school portrait with the mottled blue background? Or is it the grainy photo of you in your kitchen, with the retro tiles. Usually, it’s the latter. Your home is where you brought your baby back to. It’s where you had your first sleepless nights, and where you became a family. Even if you move house in five years, these photos will freeze time and remind you of exactly where you started.

Comfort is Key for Natural Expressions

The biggest advantage of in-home newborn photography is that you have everything you need within arm's reach.

  • Need a nappy change? The changing table is right there.

  • You have a fresh outfit ready to go in the drawer.

  • Toddler having a meltdown? They can go play with their own toys

When you are relaxed, your baby is relaxed. That is when I capture those little moments that you can't force in a studio.

So, here is my promise to you

I will not judge your messy kitchen. I will not look at your unmade bed. I am there to capture the incredible love in the room. If you are looking for a relaxed newborn photographer in Dublin who cares more about authentic moments than perfect interiors, I would love to chat. Ready to book your stress-free session?
