When Should I book a Newborn Photoshoot or a Baby Photoshoot
Best Time for Newborn Photography, Baby Photography and Booking Tips for Expecting Parents
The first few weeks with a new baby often pass in a blur. Between the night feeds, multiple nappy changes and finding your feet as a family, it’s completely normal for booking a newborn photography session to slip down the list. I’m sometimes asked whether it’s ok to wait until a baby is a little older, or has the right time for a photoshoot passed by. Yes there’s something incredibly special about capturing those quiet, early days while they’re still so new. But a photoshoot at 3-4 months is equally something you will cherish.
If you’re expecting or have recently welcomed your baby, I’m always happy to chat and help you decide the best timing for your family. And the best news is, that it doesnt need to be in the first two weeks. Baby photography can take place at any age that feels right for you.
If you’ve seen those posed baby photos with baskets, headbands, and sleepy little poses then yes, those are typically done before baby is two weeks old. But that’s not what we’re talking about here. My style of photography, is all about capturing the real moments. It happens in your home, in your space, where you and your baby are already getting to know each other. It’s about connection, cuddles, and tiny little moments. No need to stress about perfect poses or whether the baby sleeps the whole time (they probably won’t). We won’t try to put your lovely baby into intricate poses, so it’s absolutely okay if they’re older than two weeks. So yes, you can book your new baby photoshoot at any stage!
Why my brand of photography might work for you
You don’t have to go anywhere. I come to you. You and your baby can stay in your cosy clothes if you like. No rushing out the door with a baby!
It’s personal. These photos are taken in the baby’s bedroom you lovingly decorated, on the couch you’re currently living on, and with the people (and pets!) you love most.
It’s flexible. Posed sessions often need to happen within the first two weeks. My photography sessions can happen at a few days, 2 weeks, even 2 months and beyond.
It tells your story. It’s not about props or perfection. It’s about genuine smiles, soft snuggles, and the little moments.
What to Expect
My newborn and baby photoshoot sessions are relaxed. I’ll gently guide you now and then, but mostly I’m there to capture everything as it naturally unfolds.
We’ll likely spend time in a few well-lit spots in your home; your bedroom, kitchen, or living room or anywhere with nice window light. I’ll photograph you snuggling your baby, maybe a feed, some sibling (or pet!) kisses, and all the quiet in-between moments. It’s not about smiling at the camera. It’s about soaking in your baby and letting me capture that.
Quick Tips to Prep
Pick out a few soft, neutral outfits (for both you and baby, think simple and comfy).
Don’t worry about cleaning the whole house. Just give the areas we’ll be shooting in a quick tidy (or we can slide the clutter out of the frame!).
Have any special blankets or toys nearby if you’d like to include them.
Most importantly: relax. These sessions are baby-led. We’ll take breaks as needed for feeding, changing, crying, or just cuddling.
It’s the Little Things
During my photoshoots, we are not just aiming to get the perfect photo. It’s about freezing a feeling. The way your baby fits in your arms. The way your partner looks at them (and maybe at you, too). The quiet chaos of your new normal. These are the moments you’ll want to remember and they’re absolutely worth capturing.
So if you’re looking for photos that feel real, ones that take you right back to these tender (but tiring) gorgeous early days then my photoshoot might be exactly what you’re looking for. Drop me a WhatsApp today to find out more, see my packages or visit my enquiry page to send me a request
