What to Wear to a Photoshoot
Outfit Tips for Families and What Colours Work Best. How to Coordinate without Matching!
Don’t worry, I promise this does not need to be complicated and I can work with you on this. Your photography wardrobe should be comfortable and reflect who you are. I do not recommend having everyone in matching but rather coordinating and complimentary colours. There are no strict rules for what you have to wear, but consider these tips as guidelines:
1. Choose the Right Colours. You want your family to be the focus of the photos, not your clothing. I would say to steer clear of heavy patterns, neon’s, large logos and any other graphic prints. A great approach is to select one main colour and dress everyone in similar or complementary shades. Alternatively, incorporating a variety of colours can work beautifully if they harmonize with one another. Don’t forget to consider your skin tones when selecting colours. While neutral shades look great in photos, they may not always be the most flattering for Irish skin!
2. Consider Clothing Style Think about the overall style of clothing for your family. If one person is wearing a shirt, it might be nice for everyone to adopt a similar style. This creates a cohesive look in your images.
3. Match the Setting. For beach photoshoots, neutral or pastel colours typically help you stand out more than the clothing itself. On the other hand, if you’re shooting in a wooded area or on a rainy day, bright clothing on a child can create a lovely contrast against the greenery
4. Prioritize Comfort Above all, ensure that everyone is comfortable in their outfits. It’s essential that your children feel at ease in their clothing, especially if you've invested in beautiful new outfits.
Preparing for a family photoshoot doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a little planning and consideration for colours, styles, comfort, and your children's personalities, you can create a relaxed and enjoyable experience for everyone. By focusing on these elements, you’ll be well on your way to capturing beautiful and memorable family photos!
Colour Harmonies and Colour Palettes
Here are some sample colour palettes that show how different colours and tones can work well together. I love all these colours, but personally I think the cool brights would suit my family the best! These are all quite soft colours, a bright pop of colour looks great too in the right setting.
